Identification of Optimization Potentials for a Targeted Increase in Efficiency

Logistics Planning

Optimizing a Logistics Center Based on a Preliminary Phenomena Analysis

The customer produces medical and care productsfor the global market and operates several warehouses. One of these sites is located in southern Germany and was optimized with the help of Metroplan. The aim of this project was to identify and comprehensively analyze optimization potentials and define measures to increase the efficiency of the entire warehouse and process landscape of the site.

Within this project Metroplan first recorded the material flow and data and further evaluated these in a comprehensive process analysis across all warehouse and business areas. In addition, a KPI system was developed and integrated to improve site-monitoring. The identified bottlenecks were processed and analyzed in a structured manner in phenomena workshops with the respective process participants. Based on this, optimization packages were created and “quick fix” measures have been derived. Finally, Metroplan created a qualified catalog of measures, which was handed over to the customer as a roadmap with implementation recommendations and a timely and monetary evaluation. On the basis of this well-founded catalog, the customer has been in a position to decide on the next steps for optimizing its logistics center.
