Tendering for logistics service providers and support with implementation based on a systematic make-or-buy analysis
KNEIPP develops and manufactures shower gels, bath essences and skincare products for the face and body, as well as health and lifestyle products. With a history dating back to 1890, the company now holds a strong market position and its products are available to consumers in all major chemists and retail chains. Metroplan has supported KNEIPP in optimising its logistics processes.
This optimisation was based on the results of the make-or-buy analysis carried out. On the basis of this analysis, KNEIPP decided to outsource its logistics – and thus its warehouse, logistics services and shuttle transport in Germany – to an external logistics service provider (‘Buy’).
To carry out this tender process, the requirements and parameters for future operations were first defined. In addition, the current processes were documented and the target processes and requirements were defined. As part of the data analysis, the relevant master and transaction data were prepared. Based on these initial evaluations and findings, the tender documents were drawn up and the bid structures were defined. With the help of the Metroplan tools, the tendering process was finally carried out and comprehensively supported:
The tenders submitted by the service providers were analysed and evaluated, and Metroplan issued a recommendation for the award of the contract on this basis. The subsequent contract negotiations were supported right up to the client’s final decision on the award.
During the implementation phase, Metroplan provided support throughout the subsequent project stages and closely supervised the detailed design and implementation of the future operations at one of the logistics service provider’s existing sites. Following the successful completion of the testing and acceptance procedures, the project was handed over to KNEIPP.
