Efficiency-increase Through Gradual Expansion of a Logistics Air-HUB

Logistics Planning

Expansion of the Largest Air-HUB

The customer is the leading provider of international express services and is part of a larger group of companies. Due to increased capacity and throughput requirements, the client decided to expand its largest air hub. Metroplan supported this project from conception to realization and final acceptance.

In the first phase, the concept requirements have been determined as part of the design process and the technical details were then planned. On this basis, the tender documents have been created. A special feature of this project was the step-by-step expansion over several levels. Here, we worked our way from air freight container handling to the handling of conveyables to the first automated handling of large non-conveyables. With the help of the guided engineering process, the optimal manufacturer on the market was determined and the trades were awarded in the general contracting procedure. As part of the implementation support, Metroplan took over the construction site management and technical coordination and thus accompanied the project through the commissioning and test phase to the final acceptance.

The project was successfully accepted and enabled the customer to process an average of around 500,000 consignments (90 aircraft loads) in a period of 4-5 hours overnight, including unloading and sorting.
