Logistics Planning
A Metroplan Study
Logistics centers today face the challenge of achieving maximum efficiency under high cost pressure while ensuring high service quality. Shorter product life cycles, individual customer requirements and seasonal fluctuations require a high degree of flexibility. In addition, the increasing shortage of skilled workers, coupled with rising wage costs, makes consistent automationof processes unavoidable.
Thanks to technical progress in the fields of artificial intelligence, sensor technology and robotics, autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) have developed into powerful solutions for automation in logistics. In order to comprehensively assess the potential of this dynamically growing market, Metroplan conducted an extensive market study from February to June 2022, in which 384 AMR models from 103 manufacturers were examined and classified.
Our analysis shows: As robot performance and autonomy increase, so do the acquisition costs.
However, it is crucial to determine the optimum degree of autonomy. Not every task requires maximum autonomy – rather, the autonomous functions should be specifically tailored to the requirements of the respective logistics processes.
Based on our market study, we have developed a structured approach that enables us to identify the right AMR solution for our customers and compare it with conventional alternatives. In this way, we find the most efficient and economical solution for every logistical challenge.
