Logistics Planning
Automation of a logistics center in the Consumer & Food industry
This long-standing Metroplan customer is active in the food industry and is one of the market and innovation leaders in its field. This customer's products include frozen food menus and catering systems for communal restaurants as well as frozen meals/snacks for the end consumer. The products are sold, for example, to hospitals, kindergartens and nursing homes.
Due to the company’s strong growth, the logistics center for cartons previously planned and implemented by Metroplan, has been expanded to include an automated deep-freeze high-bay warehouse. The special requirement here was to ensure the stability of the technical and logistical processes under extreme temperatures of-25°C.
The first phase of the project began with the design and identification of initial solution alternatives. This was followed by detailed planning and the determination of the preferred solution using simulation. In the guided engineering process, the trades were carried out by a general integrator. Metroplan took over the project management and supervised the general integrator’s design-, approval- and implementation planning for construction/building services and logistics/IT. Metroplan also accompanied the final phase of implementation and commissioning and, in this context, checked the availability and performance of the technical trades as well as the documentation of construction/building services and logistics/IT, thus accompanying the customer until final acceptance.
