Holistic location optimization based on the Metroplan Phenomena analysis

As one of the largest internationally operating confectionery manufacturers, our client based in Italy employs more than 30,000 people. The client is part of a larger group of companies that generated an annual turnover of more than 17 billion euros in 2023. 

In order to optimize its processes, the company aimed to further develop its production and logistics site in the center of Germany. Metroplan supported the client by implementing a Metroplan Phenomena Analysis. In the course of this, based on a detailed site analysis, optimization potentials have been identified and future material flows have been defined.

At the beginning of the project, the material flows in the actual process were recorded and quantified, weak points were identified, and quick-win measures were implemented. The future logistics requirements of the site were then determined, followed by an extrapolation of the movement data. 

Based on this, technical and organizational optimization approaches were developed, and alternative supply and disposal concepts were defined. Based on this, Metroplan dimensioned and conceptualized the future material flow technology. Finally, the business case, including investment and operating cost estimates, was drawn up and presented to the client for further evaluation and decision-making.
