Warehouse structure planning | feasibility analysis

The basis for investment decisions

The feasibility analysis consists of establishing benchmark figures for a new or optimised logistics location over a very short period of time. This includes the land required and the necessary investment. Both serve to help company management make strategic decisions.

The feasibility analysis generates rough benchmark figures for a logistics project at a reasonable cost. These are, for example, spatial and staff requirements, key processes, investment, logistics costs, site development. A rough concept is developed on the basis of known or short-term requirements, and this is then agreed and evaluated with the client. For example, in a concept created on a block layout level, the decisive areas are roughly dimensioned and linked together. This allows the client to review the possible scope of the project and decide whether they would like to continue with the project or not.

Metroplan - Approach and methodology

The requirements-based warehouse areas and functional logistics areas for the storage and handling of different products, as well as for their materials handling equipment and transportation aids, are roughly dimensioned as part of the feasibility analysis of a logistics centre. Investment in land and buildings, technology and IT systems, as well as staff are evaluated analogously. Various alternatives and locations are evaluated and compared using a SWOT analysis. Metroplan has decades of experience in the design, planning and construction of manual, semi-automated and fully automated warehousing and materials-handling technology facilities. This allows us to create a ‘first draft’ on the basis of expert knowledge with minimal time and expense.
