Dennis Kolberg and Matthias Göke are looking into the issue and are publishing an e-book entitled "Die Digitale Datenautobahn: Rückgrat der Digitalisierung" this week.

The authors note that many companies take the second step before the first: they implement technological solutions without first taking care of the basics. They have neglected to think ahead and pre-structure the digital world - in the form of a "digital data highway", which means the translated title. By this they mean an innovative approach to a solution - the consistent modular and networked construction of facilities, infrastructure and IT. This is the only way to respond efficiently to changing requirements and increasing complexity.

The book is also intended to show non-experts in manufacturing companies the potential of digitization and how change can be realized in the production.
